A Man is Coming to the Earth

A Man is Coming to the Earth

by Martin Heckmanns*

Premiere: October, 20th, 2010 Theater im Pumpenhaus, Münster

Certainty lies only in the beginning and in the end. Life between comes along as piece work. Who will find himself where and how within the options of decisions? In any case, Heckmann´s hero, Bruno Benjamin Rafael Stamm, chases lifelong after his identity, driven by voices in his head. In addition, uncles, aunts, parents, old affairs and lovers emerge to tell him how things should be. Inconsistently, Bruno stumbles in an accelerated pace through this ordinary but unique program between karaoke machines, an honorary toast to the glands, life itself, women and his fear of Alzheimer and Cancer. As singer of pop songs he even becomes famous, just as Andy Warhol predicted („15 minutes of fame“) and for a moment Bruno feels fullfilled. But soon, it´s other peole´s turn and other song´s. The protagonist wants everything and finishes nothing, worries about questions like „Is it worth to live for the arts or is everything controlled from afar and life doesn´t even live?“

Under the direction of Paula Artkamp and Manfred Kerklau, the 10-headed Sycorax ensemble helter-skelters rapidly and furiously funny (with reverberating sadness) through this piece of life between banality and flight of fancy. What will stay?

.„Memory is the only paradies we cannot be expelled from.“
